Portland Community Hospital

Portland was a naval hospital which was handed over to the NHS in the early 50s. At the time it had both orthopaedics and children’s services with its own kitchen and staff accommodation.

Now, Portland Hospital now still meets the needs of both Portland and the wider community in Weymouth with a 16-bed inpatient unit, a Minor Injuries Unit and X-ray available, as well as outpatient clinics and an outpatient physiotherapy service.

The Castletown ward supports patients who need extra rehabilitation and assessment and is accredited with the Gold Standard Framework for its services to End of Life care.

The ward continues to evidence its commitment to upholding standards of care with the accreditation of the Elder Friendly Hospital ward Quality Mark, from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
